A TRADITIONAL CONSERVATORY FOR A GEORGE DEVEY DESIGNED MANOR

Case Study #45

This traditional conservatory is a perfect example of how we can adapt our approach to the client’s unique vision and create something outside of our usual scope with stunning results.

The original brief called for a conservatory that would feel like a natural extension of the exiting manor, drawing on the architecture and character of the house while incorporating design cues from the original elevations.

As the design process evolved, the client expressed a desire for a different approach. In response, our designer adapted the concept to reflect the client’s vision, resulting in a project that steps outside of our typical design.

The conservatory is accessed via a newly constructed structure from the kitchen, creating a light-filled space that maintains the symmetry and elegance appropriate to such a property.

Positioned to harmonise with the principal elevations of the manor, the conservatory creates a light and airey contrast to the fabric of the main build.

The garden room is designed with a framework that rests on locally sourced stone sills, a detail that mirrors the original architecture and lend a sense of continuity between old and new.

Ventilation is achieved through a combination of large electrically operated roof vents, opening windows and glazed doors. This ensures that the room remains comfortable throughout the year, even on the warmest summer days.

The glazed structure links to the house by means of a small independent structure which also provides easy access to the garden.

It features an inset roof hidden behind a secret gutter that provides the discreet water management.
