Period Correctness &
Attention to Detail

We remain true to the architectural genres and nuances of many historical periods – emulating detail, proportion and visual correctness, balancing relationships between columns and entablatures whilst keeping glazing styles as delicate as possible.

We embrace the diversity of building styles throughout the various eras and carry forward an adventurous spirit in the design of all our conservatories and orangeries.

We are driven by design excellence and embrace traditional methods of construction, whilst working with advances in technology and materials. We aim to develop each of our buildings to include the correct level of detail and aesthetic appreciation both internally and externally.

Exquisite Detail

Our exceptional team of highly skilled craftsmen work in a variety of timbers and materials to produce a vast range of decorative detail for our glazed structures, which is individually tailored to the specific period, style and detail of the garden room and host property.

These range from elaborate window designs, feature columns, hand carved finials and bargeboards and intricate corbels and eaves. Our attention to decorative detail where required is unrivalled, as can be seen throughout the inside and outside of our many elaborate structures.

Traditional Joinery Techniques

Our glazed structures are erected worldwide and consequently are subject to a wide variety of weather conditions and dramatic temperature changes, and therefore only the very best materials and construction techniques are utilised within each new building.

All frames and panels are assembled with traditional mortice and tenon joints, a time proven method which ensures the long life and stability of each element of construction.

Decorative detail in our glazing is created with fine and delicate 26mm joinery housing individual double glazed units which are produced in our in-house glass department. This traditional form of glazing, referred to as ‘true divided lights’, ensures the correct proportions, depth and shadow lines. Although labour intensive to produce, we stay true to the traditional methods rather than turning to applied or simulated divided lights.

Unique Roof System

Pioneered 40 years ago our brilliantly engineered roof system, completely unique to Vale, combines timber with metal. With our strong engineering background, we are able to achieve greater strengths and spans, incorporating double glazed units between fine glazing rafters.

The advantages of a technologically advanced roof are achieved whilst recreating the slender appearance of the single glazed conservatories of the past, without compromising on traditional detail.

Pre-installation

At Vale, we are unique in our manufacturing process in that each and every one of our structures whether large or small, is completely assembled in our pre-installation hall. When completed, it is taken apart for our pre-installation painting process.

Working this way not only ensures exceptional and precise accuracy of the build, but also significantly minimises the amount of time required at your home to carry out this most important aspect of your project.

Pattern Making

Uniquely, Vale Garden Houses have their own in-house patternmaking department which we regularly call on due to the bespoke nature of our work. Their expertise is essential in providing the specialist detail required for many of our projects, incorporating mouldings and features to echo the period and architectural characteristics of the property.

The pattern making department will also be involved in hand carving timber bargeboards, columns and emblems to complement a specific detail on the property or client’s requirement.

True Inset Box Gutters

Vale are one of the few companies to design orangeries with a true inset box gutter which is hidden behind the parapet to diminish the height of the roof.

The benefits of this construction are that the elegant proportions of the structure can be maintained, as well as concealing the lantern upstand and rafter ends of the interior flat roof method.

All of our orangeries incorporate a true inset box gutter which is both architecturally superior and visually correct.
